Poet and Literary Underground founder Michele McDannold's monthly Legit AF reading series celebrates its first anniversary in Michigan City's Uptown Arts District next Monday.
McDannold has given a stage at the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts Building to local artists, and brought in notable writers from across the country.

"Welcome to my home," local artist Felecia Clark-Viou told a group of fellow artists, investors, community activists and art lovers filling the lower level of Artspace on Thursday. A grand opening was held to celebrate the Artspace Uptown Artists Lofts that opened earlier this year in the former Warren Building at 717 Franklin St. Clark-Viou was among several speakers that applauded the completion of the Artspace live/work units. "I'm proud to be part of an artistic community that endeavors to try to inject diversity into everything they do," she said.

Artspace is pleased to announce the Grand Opening celebration for the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts, scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Michigan City, Indiana. The ceremony will take place at the Lofts at 717 Franklin Street.
Baumgartner and other residents at the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts will be holding an open house event on Saturday, Aug. 20, in the UAL artist gallery.
An underground poetry reading in Michigan City will aim to raise funds for a new monthly reading series that would showcase national and local authors in the Uptown Arts District at the new Artspace Uptown Artists Lofts, at 717 Franklin St. in downtown Michigan City.
The recently completed conversion of the landmark, long abandoned Warren Building into the Artspace Uptown Artists Lofts (see related article), has been a springboard for private investment in downtown. Now, nearly all the Franklin Street storefronts are occupied with unique shops, restaurants, art galleries and other businesses.
