Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts Grand Opening

ARTSPACE UPTOWN ARTIST LOFTS CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING DECEMBER 1

Artist studios open to the public from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. 

Artspace is pleased to announce the Grand Opening celebration for the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts, scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Michigan City, Indiana. The ceremony will take place at the Lofts at 717 Franklin Street.

Brief remarks are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in the Horizon Community Gallery on the first floor of the Lofts. From 6:00 to 8:00, resident artists will open their studios to the public for an open house featuring exhibits, music and art on all seven floors of the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts.

Among those scheduled to make remarks at the ceremony are Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer, Councilmember Tim Bietry, City Controller Rich Murphy, a representative of the Redevelopment Commission, Barker Welfare Foundation President Sarane Ross, Barker Welfare Foundation Treasurer Tom McCormick,  Horizon Bank President Tom Edwards, NIPSCO Public Affairs Manager Angie Nelson, Unity Foundation of La Porte County President Maggi Spartz, Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority Executive Director Jacob Sipe, Kil Architecture Principal Greg Kil, Tonn & Blank President & CEO Jon Gilmore, a resident of the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts, and Artspace President Kelley Lindquist.

“I’m so proud of our first project in Indiana,” said Artspace President Kelley Lindquist. “We’re tremendously grateful to our partners, excited for the artists in Michigan City, and we look forward to celebrating the opening of this beautiful space with them.”

Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts is a sustainable, mixed-use, community arts project in downtown Michigan City, Indiana. Now complete and fully leased, the project transformed the vacant Warren Building into an affordable live/work facility containing 44 units of housing for low-income artists and their families, resident gallery exhibition space, and approximately 5,400 sq.ft. of commercial space for creative businesses and arts organizations, all located in the nationally-designated Franklin Street Historic District of downtown Michigan City.
