New York City Mayor Bloomberg, First Deputy Mayor Patty Harris, and New York City Council member Melissa Mark Viverito tour artist spaces in downtown Saint Paul on July 25, 2008.

Through the support of Council member Viverito, Artspace had the honor of leading Mayor Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor Harris through the Northern Warehouse Artists' Cooperative and the Tilsner Artists' Cooperative in the Lowertown neighborhood of downtown Saint Paul. This was a rare and important opportunity for Artspace to showcase some of the first artist spaces to be created nationally through the use of federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits. Artspace is currently working on a project in Council member Viverito's district in East Harlem. This project, the first of its kind in New York City, will represent an important link to the historic depth of the East Harlem cultural community.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Visits Artspace Buffalo Lofts on July 9.

Mayor Byron Brown and Artspace were honored to host Senator Clinton at the new Artspace Buffalo Lofts. Senator Clinton was a big supporter of this mixed-use creative community project and spearheaded a Congressional allocation which, in conjunction with city, state, and local philanthropic funding, made the Artspace project come to life.

TRAFFIC ZONE ANNOUNCES:

"AMERICANS WHO TELL THE TRUTH"
AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY ROB SHETTERLY

September 1-30, 2008: Members of The Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art, a 23-member artist co-op in Minneapolis' North Loop today announced that their TZCVA Gallery will host "Americans Who Tell the Truth," a show presenting portraits by Robert Shetterly. The exhibition is an exploration and celebration of the American Spirit through portraits, educational curriculum, and community outreach.

Shetterly began painting the portraits that comprise Americans Who Tell the Truth as a way to channel his hope and conviction that America could use the aftermath of the tragedies of 9/11 to reassess its position in the world community. Shetterly through his work ethic and intelligent approach, shows us how to be better citizens by using art as a vehicle for honesty and truth telling.

During his visit, Shetterly will conduct free lectures, hands-on art activities and educational workshops in local schools and arts organizations.

The original plan of combining the words and images celebrating Americans who have spoken out in support of their convictions has grown from his original concept of 50 portraits to well beyond 150, including Minnesota "truth tellers" such as Paul Wellstone, Winona LaDuke, and a portrait debut of Colleen Rowley.

When: Monday, September 1 through Thursday, September 30, 2008

Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm

Artist Reception: September 18, 2008 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
